Maihaugen in Lillehammer is one of Norways largest and most beautiful open air museums. The museum shows traditions and living in Norway. Maihaugen is the ideal day outdoors for both young and old. We offer activities and adventures for the whole family.

In main season (June-September) the museum invites you into Norwegian homes from different times. Exciting exhibitions, good eating and meaningful experiences for people of all ages. In low season it it possible to walk in the outdoor museum for free and watch the houses from outside.
-The open air museum is divided into 3 areas; the Rural section, the Residential area and the Town section.
-The Rural section shows the farmers society with a stave church, school house, priests farm, farms, mountain farms, smallholdings and fishermens huts. In the Rural section you will find houses from as far back as the 13th century.
-The Town section tells the story about an inland town around 1900. Along the main street you find the old town houses from Lillehammer.
-In the Residential section you can see houses from different decades of the 20th century.
-The first weekend in advent Maihaugen holds one of the largest Christmas Markets in Norway. Entrance fee is to paid these days.
-Different exhibitions are offered throughout the year in the main building.
In the period from October – May there is an entrance fee for the exhibitions. Walking in the outdoor museum is free during this period.

In the summer the open air museum offers lots of activities, plays and guided tours for all ages.Join us on a nostalgic journey back to the 20th century. Kids can dress up in old costumes and have fun. Excellent exhibitions, shops and café open all year. In the winter the open air museum is a beautiful place for a nice walk.
